Show written steps
  1. Choose only the path that matches your screen. Open Settings. If your name appears at the top, use steps 2–4 and stop after Change Password. If Apple Account appears instead, skip to step 5 and use steps 5–7. The guide shows your name for the signed-in path and Apple Account for the signed-out path.
  2. Signed in: open your account. If your name appears, tap your name. Your Apple Account settings open.
  3. Signed in: open Sign-In & Security. Tap Sign-In & Security. The security choices open.
  4. Signed in: choose Change Password and stop here. Tap Change Password, then enter the iPhone passcode when Apple asks. This finishes the signed-in path; do not continue to step 5. The trusted iPhone begins Apple’s password-change process. The signed-in path is complete.
  5. Signed out only: open Apple Account. Use this step only if Apple Account appeared at the top of Settings. Tap Apple Account. The sign-in choices appear.
  6. Signed out: choose Sign in Manually. Tap Sign in Manually. The manual sign-in screen appears.
  7. Signed out: choose Forgot password?. Tap Forgot password?, then follow Apple’s identity checks. Apple begins the recovery path for a signed-out iPhone.
